In a city where wellness is too often a luxury, Let's Be Whole is making it a birthright. The organization proudly presents the inaugural Alafia Community Healing Fest: "The Premier Sacred Sound & Wellness Experience." This free, immersive cultural wellness festival debuts in the historic heart of Leimert Park Village on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 12 PM to 5 PM on People Street, directly in front of the Vision Theater and Kaos Network.

Sponsored by Take Action LA, CalMHSA, and supported by the Office of Councilwoman Heather Hutt (CD10), the festival unites wellness practitioners, cultural educators, artists, mental health advocates, and community leaders for a transformative afternoon rooted in collective joy and restoration. Admission is entirely free and open to all.

Conceived as a sanctuary for the mind, body, and spirit, the festival bridges ancestral healing traditions with contemporary mental health tools—directly addressing community trauma, chronic stress, and emotional well-being through culturally grounded, community-led experiences.

"We are carrying generations of unaddressed historical trauma. Just as Holocaust survivors and other global communities have rightfully named, honored, and healed from historical atrocities, it is time for the African Diaspora to confront and heal our own past and present wounds," says Queen Mother Nina Womack, Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist, Founder of Let's Be Whole, and festival organizer. "I designed this initiative under the Take Action LA grant because wellness cannot just be a modern luxury—it must be a vehicle for historical restoration. Sacred sound and ancestral arts are our medicine, and community is our path to liberation."

What to Expect: A Feast for the Senses & Spirit

Festival attendees will experience a rich, healing-centered lineup designed for all generations:

Sacred Sounds & Movement: Live Kora music, African drumming, interactive African dance classes, Tai Chi, yoga, and guided breathwork.

Creative Expression: Tribal mask-making, mindfulness journaling, poetry, and arts and crafts.

Holistic Health & Dialogue: Herbal wellness education, traditional tea ceremonies, and peer-led mental wellness healing circles.

Community Nourishment: Free groceries provided by FoodCycle LA and Let's Be Whole, complimentary herbal tea from Nappily Naturals, and refreshing slushie samples from Ginger Surprise.

Featured Voices & Presenters

The festival features an esteemed lineup of local leaders and global icons, including Celebrity Chef Babette Davis, Ancestral Healer, Coach Afi G, Kora Player Fodé Sissoko, Dr. Farid Zarif, Pastor Thembekila Coleman-Smart of the SCLC, Reverend Amadi from KRST, Seba Chimbuko Tembo from the Us organization,  KimiRhochelle Porter, and Nigerian Princess, Monalisa Okojie, alongside peers with lived experience and cultural educators.

Rooted in African-Centered Healing

The Alafia experience draws from African-centered healing philosophies that center collective care, ancestral wisdom, and creative arts, a holistic framework designed to uplift Black and African-descended communities across generations. This festival marks a major public milestone for the broader Alafia Restoration Initiative, which continues this vital work through ongoing community support, storytelling, and intergenerational restoration practices.
